| Please note that the instructions on this page are
for using files with Palm OS devices. Users of other PDAs should refer
to the appropriate Help page: Pocket
PC, EPOC,
Other Devices.
Installing document files: How to install a document file
on a Palm OS device depends on the type of document file it is,
as follows:
- Zip files (named .zip) should be "unzipped" to extract
the various files contained within the .zip archive file. Aladdin's
suite of free Expander programs allow
you to open .zip files on your computer. Once you extract the
files contained inside the .zip file, follow the instructions
below based on what kind they are.
- Binary files (including .pdb and .prc files) should be
installed on your Palm OS device using the Palm Install Tool
software application that came with your PDA. This will prepare
the document file for installation the next time you HotSync with
your PC. Once you HotSync, the file will be installed on your
PDA. If you have the correct reader
application for the format of the document file already installed,
then you should be able to read the document file on your PDA.
- Text files (named .txt) should be installed on your Palm
OS device via "copying and pasting" the contents of the text file
into the PDA's MemoPad application via the Palm Desktop software
(or your PIM of choice).
For Windows users:
- Using a decent browser, find the Text memo you want at MemoWare
- Switch to your program manager and open up the Palm Desktop
Application
- At MemoWare, select the Text document you want
- Using your mouse, highlight all the text in the memo (or
first part if it's a multi-part memo)
- Select Edit and Copy
- Switch to the Palm Desktop program and start a new memo
- Click in the memo area and select the Edit pull-down menu
and then Paste
- You should see the memo contents in the memo window
- Hit the 'Apply' button and voila! your shiny new memo is
ready for HotSyncing into your PalmOS device
- CSV files (named .csv) should be downloaded and then
"Imported" into the Palm's AddressBook application via the Palm
Desktop app.
For Windows users:
- Using a decent browser, find the CSV document you want at
MemoWare
- Switch to your program manager and open up the Palm Desktop
Application
- In the desktop application, create an appropriate AddressBook
category (e.g. "Hotels") and then "Import" the .csv file into
that category. A separate entry for each hotel listing should
be then imported and transferred during the next HotSync.
Contact the contributor of the CSV file for additional help
if needed.
